Bss proudly support Browns’ Recycling Skip Art Challenge

Our MD Paul and Sales & Purchasing Co-ordinator, Patrick proudly attended the launch of Browns’ Recycling skip art challenge last night.

Our sister company, Aerosols Direct, donated around £800 worth of aerosol paint so that the artists could create vibrant works of art.

Along with the team from Browns Recycling and the 10 finalists, they enjoyed a great evening at The Slamwich Club in Piccadilly, Hanley, where the finished skips were displayed. Luckily the weather was on their side, so the skips could be displayed all along Piccadilly.

The event came from an idea that Co-Managing Director of Browns Recycling, Mitch, had in 2020, while talking with artist Les Jones during a course at Keele Uni. Mitch and Les thought it would be a good idea if skips had art on them – a bit like mobile art that can move around!

It’s taken Mitch four years to bring the idea to life but now the project has become a massive success, with the finalists being whittled down from the original 60 entries.

The project is all about fundraising for the Dougie Mac, with sponsors and artists contributing to the cause. They’ve set up a Just Giving page for anyone who wants to donate, and this will close at the end of September.

One of the artists, Becky McGillivray, said that she found the aerosols “really easy to use”.

Fellow artist, Amalia Gherman, said, “It was a good change from my usual art materials as I never really use aerosols. It was a really conscious use of material, not a lot of waste and the actual product was easy to use and has a lovely fluid motion.”

We think that all the skips are brilliant, and although you’re not supposed to have a favourite, we’ve discovered that Paul and Patrick’s is the one with the owl, painted by Tom Edwards from Weareculla!
