Meet Seamus: Our Community’s Latest Guide Dog

It’s with great excitement that we introduce Seamus, the latest guide dog sponsored by our community at BSS. Seamus is no ordinary Golden Retriever, he’s set for an incredible journey, and we can’t wait to see where this path takes him. When Seamus was born on August 27, 2024, his bright eyes and calm temperament immediately hinted at his potential to become an exceptional guide dog. From the beginning, he’s shown the intelligence and gentleness essential for such an important role.

Seamus’s name was chosen with love by friends, family, and our loyal customers. Named after Seamus Fitzsimmons, an Irish singer-songwriter known for his blend of folk and contemporary music, this special guide dog becomes a true symbol of the community that brought him here.

He joins our proud tradition as the third guide dog sponsored by BSS, an initiative that has already provided life-changing support through our previous sponsored dogs. Seamus’s journey reflects the dedication and generosity of all who contributed to this project, whether by taking part in our raffles, dropping change into collection tubs, or supporting our fundraising events at BSS and with our friends at The Archer Pub.

Thanks to this extraordinary support over the past few years, we’ve now raised £15,000, enough to cover the sponsorship of not just one but three guide dogs, each one serves as a beacon of independence for someone in need.

Seamus is now under the expert care of the Guide Dogs training team, who are helping him develop the skills he’ll need to become a companion and guide. Each week, he’s mastering essential tasks, from basic commands to gradually more complex skills that will allow him to guide someone safely and confidently.

We’re incredibly proud of what this little guy is achieving with the support of his trainers. Over the coming months, Seamus will enter a more advanced phase of his training, where he’ll learn to navigate bustling streets, help his future owner on public transport, and provide companionship and security.

Our partnership with the Guide Dogs organisation has made it possible for Seamus to be on this journey, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it happen.

Your donations, large or small, are helping to bring more independence and joy into people’s lives. Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing updates as Seamus continues on his path to becoming a full-fledged guide dog.
